Helichrysum 2014
Brunello di Montalcino DOCG MAGNUM

94 points James Suckling

92 Points Wine Enthusiast: "Showing elegance and surprising structure for the cool, wet vintage, this delivers Marasca cherry, raspberry, licorice, tobacco and white-pepper flavors set against youthfully taut fine-grained tannins. Bright acidity lends balance and tension."

92 Points Decanter, included in Wines of the Year list: "Evolved and complex, luxurious cherry fruit complemented by the toffeed sweetness of nougat and oak. Lovely structure and ageing potential."

17/20 points Jancis Robinson:"Lustrous ruby. Savoury and deep red-fruit nose. Supple, gentle strawberry fruit with lots of coating tannins and completely intergrated acidity."

South facing vineyard at 450 metres. Sandy loam and volcanic soil mix, with marl veins.

Weather
A mild and rather wet winter was followed by an early, though slightly cool, spring. The summer was characterized by unusually high rainfalls and low temperatures, which delayed the ripening process. Late summer, however, saw an increase in temperatures, and San Polino avoided the last summer rains. Luck with the weather and rigorous selections of the grapes meant that we brought in an unexpectedly good harvest, even in this difficult year.
